Pittsgrove Baptist Church believes and teaches
the following truths, believing them to be the expression of truth
as revealed in the Holy Scriptures:
The Scriptures: We believe the Bible to be the Canonical Scriptures, consisting
of thirty-nine books of the Old Testament and twenty-seven of the
New Testament; that it is verbally plenarily (to the fullest extent),
inspired by the living God in its original writing; and it is the
only infallible rule and standard of faith and practice for believers.
We also believe in the inspiration of the words as well as the human
instruments who wrote them under the power of the Holy Spirit. (II
Peter 1:20-21; II Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 1:1-2; John 10:35; Ephesians
6:17; Isaiah 8:20; Psalm 119:105)
The Tri-unity of the Godhead:
We believe that God is Triune: that there are three eternal, co-equal,
Divine Persons in the Godhead: the Father, the Son, and the Holy
Spirit; and these three are one God. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Luke 3:21-22;
I Peter 1:2; Matthew 28:18-20: II Corinthians 13:14; I John 5:7-8)
The Persons of the Trinity:
a. The Person of God the Father. We believe that
God is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and also the Father
of all those who believe in and receive His Son, the Lord Jesus
Christ, as Saviour. (Galatians 3:26; John 1:12-13; I John 1:1-3)
b.
The Person of Jesus Christ. We believe in the Eternal Deity of the Lord
Jesus Christ and that He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the
Virgin Mary. (John 1:1-3,14; Luke 1:35; Colossians 1:15-18; Colossians
2:3,9; I Timothy 3:16)
c. The Person of the Holy Spirit. We believe
the Holy Spirit to be the third person of the Trinity; that He
inspired holy men of God to write the Holy Scriptures. The Lord
Jesus Christ declared His office work to convict the world of sin,
righteousness and judgment; to witness in and through believers
in the Lord Jesus Christ; and to lead His
followers into all the Truth of the Word of God. (John 16:7-11; John 14:26;
John 15:26-27; John 16:12-15)
Mankind:
We believe
man was created by a special act of God, in the image and likeness
of God and without sin. Being tempted by Satan, Adam willfully
and knowingly rebelled against God’s command, thus
effecting the fall of the race. This brought spiritual and physical
death upon all mankind. By virtue of Adam’s sin all his descendants
possess a sinful nature being alienated from, and a stranger to,
God. Being totally depraved, man is unable of himself to remedy
his lost condition. (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:22-23; Ephesians
2:1-3,12; Isaiah 64:6; Romans 5:12-14)
Salvation: We believe that the only way to be saved is by grace through faith
in the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ shed on the Cross
of Calvary and in the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ,
the Son of God. We believe that the blood-redeemed saints, truly
born-again believers in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Saviour, are saved and kept by the power of God through
faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (John
3:14-16; John 14:6; Ephesians 2:8-10; Acts 4:12; Acts 16:31; Romans
10:9-10; John 10:27-30; I Peter 1:3-5; I John 5:13)
One Mediator:
We believe the Lord Jesus Christ ascended
bodily into Heaven.
a. He is our Advocate.
b. He ever lives to make intercession for us.
c. He is now our High Priest after the order of Melchizedek.
d. He is the only Mediator between God and man.
e. It is our privilege to read the Scriptures for ourselves and
have direct access to God without the mediation of a priest.
(Mark 16:19; Luke 24:51; Hebrews 7:17,25; Hebrews 9:24; I John
2:1; Hebrews 8:1; I Timothy 2:5-6)
The True Church:
We believe the True Church, which is the Body and Bride of Christ,
began with the descent of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost
(Acts 2:14). It is the spiritual building of the Holy Spirit and
every person, who by faith receives Jesus Christ as personal Saviour,
is thereby baptized into this Body by the Holy Spirit who also indwells
such believers. (Matthew 16:16-18; Acts 2:1-4,33,47; John 7:39; Ephesians
2:20-22; Colossians 1:18-19; Ephesians 5:31-32; I Corinthians 12:12-13;
Romans 8:9-15; I John 2:27; I John 4:13)
The Local Church:
We believe the local church is the expression
of the True Church and is to be composed of regenerated (saved)
persons and organized for the purpose of fulfilling the great commission
of our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19-20; administers the two
Divinely instituted ordinances of Believers’ Baptism by immersion,
and the Communion of the Lord’s Table as the memorial of
Christ’s death
until He returns. (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 22:19-20;
Acts1:8; I Corinthians 11:23-26)
The Return of the Lord Jesus Christ:
a. We believe in the pre-millennial second coming
of the Lord Jesus Christ; that His coming is to be in two phases:
1)
Coming for His saints.
2) Later coming with His saints in glory to judge the world.
b. We believe in constantly looking for the
return of our Saviour, looking for the blessed hope and the glorious
appearing of the great God and our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.
c. We believe in the literality of the seven
years’ tribulation,
the seventieth week of the Prophecy of Daniel 9:27, and the millennial
kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ.
d. We believe in the pre-tribulation rapture
of the saints. (II Thessalonians 2:1-12; Titus 2:13; Philippians
3:20-21; John 14:3; I Thessalonians 1:9-10; I Thessalonians 4:13-18;
I Corinthians 15:51-57; Revelation 20:4-6)
The Person of Satan:
We believe that Satan is a person; the author of the fall of man;
the cause of sin and disease in the world; and that his doom is eternal
punishment in perdition, the Lake of Fire. (Genesis 3:15; John 1:6-7;
Revelation 20:2-10; Isaiah 14:12-15)
The Intermediate State:
We believe that all who die in Christ are absent
from the body and present with the Lord. All who die out of Christ
are in conscious torment in Hades until the Great White Throne Judgment
when they will be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire in consciousness
forever. (Philippians 1:21-24; II Corinthians 5:1-8; Luke 23:43;
Luke 16:19-31; Revelation 20:11-15)
The Final State of the Saved and
the Lost:
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead,
both of the just and the unjust; in the eternal conscious perdition
of the lost; and the eternal life, joy and bliss of the saved. (I
Corinthians 15:20-24; John 5:28-29; Matthew 25:41,46; Revelation
21:4-7)
To this doctrinal basis, all instructions in the church, in all
its departments, and the family shall conform. We believe in the
independence of the local church.
